The Maglev Plus System is specifically designed to levitate various objects attached to a very strong disc magnet. It can levitate up to 25 g additional mass. The vertical position of the levitating magnet is measured using a linear Hall effect sensor and the current in the electromagnet is controlled using a microcontroller. The system has three push buttons to configure the system to achieve stable levitation with different additional weights. Two of the push buttons are used to change the controller parameters and the third one is used to save the current controller parameters into the nonvolatile flash memory of the microcontroller.
The Maglev Plus System is available as a kit or fully assembled unit. In addition to the 1/2" x 1/4" N52 disc magnet that comes with the system, it also works with the 1/2" N42 sphere magnet, 1/2" x 1/8" N42 disc magnet, 2 cm hematine sphere magnet, 1" hematine sphere magnet listed on our Components page (with varying additional mass).
Maximum additional (non-magnetic) mass: 25 g
Maximum gap distance: 2.5 cm with 0 g additional weight
Power supply: 100 − 240 V, 50 / 60 Hz, AC input, 7.5 V, 1 A, DC output with USA or European plug type
Size: ~ 2.5" x 2.5" x 6.0" (6.35 cm x 6.35 cm x 15.24 cm)
Weight: ~ 1.0 lb (0.5 kg)
Size: 1/2" x 1/4" (1.27 cm x 0.635 cm)
Mass: 6 g
Gap distance (from the top of the levitating magnet to the bottom of the coil)
2.5 cm with 0 g additional mass
2.4 cm with 5 g additional mass
2.2 cm with 10 g additional mass
2.0 cm with 15 g additional mass
1.7 cm with 20 g additional mass
Place the magnet (with the desired additional mass attached) below the coil.
Use the push button B to move the levitating object up and push button C to move the levitating object down until achieving stable levitation.
Press the push button A to save the current configuration if desired. The LED will flash 5 times to indicate that the current configuration is saved. If the current configuration is not saved, then it will be lost when the power is cycled. If the current configuration is saved, then the system will levitate the same additional mass until it is re-programmed for different additional mass. The programming can be done up to 100000 times (typical).
