The ILA LPS is a state of the art LED PIV illumination system. It offers a simple solution for the user to do PIV with high power LEDs without having to think about the complex control task thats behind it. 

The Controller-Head combination ensures safe operation simultaneously gaining the most out of the LED. The system is able to control up to four separate heads with different colors and is remote controlled via ethernet. A comfortable software, specially designed to fit the needs of demanding PIV setups, is also provided. 

The LEDs can be exchanged easily and the actual color is coded by a simple switch.The LED-Heads support various optical arrangements on standard mountings. Even fiber coupled light-sheet optics are available.

LPS Controller

The ILA LPSControllerII is a software remoted high-precision driver for the LPS LED heads. It can conveniently be controlled via ethernet from a PC.


The two dimensional and two component PIV system represents the most commonly used set up. The areas of application are widely spread from investigations of the flow after an artificial heart valve up to full scale wind tunnels.
Depending on the application, the flow medium and region of interest one can use different light sources such as the Pulsing LEDs for small 100x100mm or high power lasers for 1x1m areas.
The advantage of this system is that is relatively easy to implement and at the same time yields qualitative and quantitative information about the in-plane velocity distribution.

2D/3C or Stereo PIV

If the flow is highly three-dimensional and the knowledge of the 3rd, out-of-plane velocity component is necessary, then Stereo PIV is the system to go with. Although , stereo set-up is not always straightforward due to the necessary optical access and possible reflecting surfaces in the ROI, ILA's system is flexible and easy to use.

In order to reconstruct the third velocity component from the two viewing angels, they must fulfill the Scheimpflug condition, which can be easily achieved with the help of the ILA TiltMounts. When compared component-wise with the classical PIV, this set up requires one more camera, two TiltMounts and a two level target.

High Speed PIV

High-speed PIV is a valuable investigative tool where a detailed insight is needed in the temporal behavior of transient or unsteady flows. Important areas of application of the technique include:

  • Aeroacoustics
  • Unsteady flows in aero- and hydrodynamic studies
